A versatile type of plastic known as TPU combines the flexibility of rubber with the reusability of thermoplastics. These remarkable materials are known for their transparency, resistance to wear and tear from oil and grease, and overall toughness. From a technical point of view, TPUs are thermoplastic elastomers composed of alternating hard and soft segments linked together in a chain-like structure.

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) are thermoplastic elastomers consisting of linear segmented block copolymers with hard and soft segments.

  * High wear resistance
  * Low temperature performance
  * High shear strength
  * High flexibility
  * Transparency
  * Oil and grease resistance

Commercially available TPUs can be divided into two sub-categories.

  - Based on **polyester** derived from adipic acid esters.
  - Polyethylene-based **polyethylene** derived from tetrahydrofuran ethers.
